How Learning to Scuba Works

1. Knowledge Development- Independent Study (eLearning Included)

Start on your schedule with PADI’s online eLearning program—included with your course fee (a $246 value).
The self-paced study takes most students 10–20 hours and covers dive theory, equipment, safety, and underwater environments.

2. Knowledge Review & Pool Skill Development

After finishing eLearning, you’ll join your instructor for classroom review, a quick quiz, and hands-on skill practice in one of our many pool locations across MD–DC–VA.
Pool sessions run most weekends, typically from 10am–5pm, depending on location.

Our 2:1 student-to-instructor ratio ensures personalized attention, safe training, and the confidence you need as a new diver.

3. Open-Water Training Dives

Your final step is completing four instructor-supervised open-water dives over two days.

• May–October: Join us at a local quarry or spring.

• Year-round: Complete your dives on vacation or on one of our group trips.

Once training is complete—you’re a certified diver for life.

Course Pricing

Part One – Class, Pool & eLearning

$499 includes:

• PADI eLearning (a $246 value)

• Classroom review

• Pool training

• Use of all major scuba gear

• Ability to rent mask/snorkel/fins for $49

Part Two – Open-Water Training Dives

$295 for four instructor-supervised certification dives
(Two dives per day over a Saturday/Sunday)

You may complete these locally or on any trip with us.

Prerequisites

To enroll, you must:

• Be 10 years or older (ages 10–15 may prefer our Summer Scuba Camp)

• Be in reasonably good health

• Answer “No” to all questions on the PADI/RSTC Medical History form or obtain physician approval

• Complete a watermanship assessment:

  • Float/tread/drownproof for 10 minutes

  • AND

    • Swim 200 yards (any stroke, no time limit)

    • or Swim 300 yards with mask/snorkel/fins

Once you complete these steps, you’re certified for life and ready to join us for dives at the National Aquarium or travel with us to some of the world’s most exciting dive destinations.
