7 SIGNS YOU’RE READY TO BE A RESCUE DIVER
Are you ready to go from being a good dive buddy to the buddy everyone wants on the dive?
You’ve learned the basics. You’ve logged some dives. You’re getting comfortable underwater. Now you’re starting to notice something—you’re not just thinking about your own dive anymore.
That might mean you’re ready for the Atlantic Edge Rescue Diver Course!
Rescue Diver is one of the most challenging, rewarding—and surprisingly fun—courses you can take. It changes the way you think underwater and teaches you how to recognize problems, prevent emergencies and help another diver when things don’t go according to plan.
So… are you ready?
1. YOU’VE STOPPED THINKING ONLY ABOUT YOURSELF
Remember your first few dives?
Where’s my buddy? What’s my air? Why am I going up? Why am I going down? Where did everybody go?
Now you’re comfortable enough to actually notice what the other divers are doing.
That situational awareness is a big step toward becoming a Rescue Diver.
2. YOU’VE THOUGHT, “WHAT WOULD I DO IF…?”
What if your buddy panicked?
What if someone was exhausted at the surface?
What if a diver didn’t come back to the boat?
What if someone became unresponsive?
If you’ve started asking yourself these questions, Rescue Diver teaches you what to do next.
3. YOU WANT TO BE A BETTER BUDDY
A great dive buddy does more than remember whose turn it is to bring the snacks.
Rescue training teaches you to recognize stress, spot potential problems and assist another diver—sometimes before that diver even realizes there’s a problem.
The best rescue is often the one you prevent.
4. YOU’RE GETTING MORE CONFIDENT UNDERWATER
You don’t have to be Jacques Cousteau to take Rescue Diver.
But if you’re comfortable with your basic scuba skills and ready to take on a new challenge, Rescue is a great next step.
Instead of concentrating entirely on “Am I okay?”, you start developing the skills to ask:
“Is everyone else okay?”
5.YOU WANT MORE CONFIDENCE WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG
Most dives are relaxing and uneventful.
That’s exactly how we like them.
But equipment problems, stress, exhaustion and unexpected situations can happen.
The Atlantic Edge Rescue Diver Course gives you hands-on experience dealing with realistic scenarios so your first thought isn't:
“Uh-oh.”
It's:
“I know what to do.”
6. MASTER SCUBA DIVER OR DIVEMASTER IS ON YOUR RADAR
Thinking about taking your diving further?
Rescue Diver is an important step toward both Master Scuba Diver and professional-level training.
For the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating, you'll need Rescue Diver certification, five specialties and 50 logged dives.
And if becoming a Divemaster is somewhere in your future, Rescue Diver is an essential step along the way.
7. YOU’RE READY TO WORK HARD—AND HAVE A LOT OF FUN
We won't lie.
Rescue Diver will challenge you.
You'll practice assisting tired divers, dealing with panicked divers, searching for missing divers, helping unresponsive divers and working through realistic rescue scenarios.
You may tow people.
You may drag people.
You may wonder why your dive buddy suddenly weighs 400 pounds.
And you're probably going to laugh a lot along the way.
That's part of what makes the Atlantic Edge Rescue Diver Course one of our favorite courses to teach.
SO… ARE YOU READY?
Rescue Diver isn't about becoming an underwater superhero.
It's about becoming a more aware, more confident and more capable diver who is better prepared to help when someone needs it.
And when you finish, you'll probably never look at a dive quite the same way again.
